Songs & Stories Tour Comes to Austin

3TEN ACL LIVE, Austin, TX, May 19, 2019 – Like a late-90s version of the Traveling Wilbury’s, the Songs & Stories Tour rolled through Austin, TX this past Sunday night   .  The effective supergroup is the brainchild of Art Alexakis, lead singer of Everclear, and sees him joined by John Wozniak (Marcy Playground), Chris Collingwood (Fountains of Wayne) and Max Collins (Eve 6).

As was expected, fans were treated to an evening of 90s nostalgia with a setlist that could have been taken straight from MTV’s Total Request Live (TRL).  Such hits included “Sex and Candy”, “Inside Out”, “Here’s to the Night”, “Stacy’s Mom”, “I Will Buy You a New Life”, “Santa Monica”, and of course “Father of Mine”.  It was very apparent that everyone in the audience, although twenty years older than the first time they heard the songs, remembered all of the lyrics and were not afraid to show it!

But that was only half of the beauty of this show.  The unexpected treats came in the form of cover songs.  Each artist got to pick a cover that all four singers then played together.  To give you a taste of how special this was, some of the covers included Tom Petty, REM, The Band and Warren Zevon. During each of these covers, it was impossible to tell if it was the crowd or the artists that was having more fun.
