Reignwolf Destroys Chicago

On March 7, 2019, the mighty Reignwolf finally returned to Chicago in support of their brilliant, long-awaited debut album, Hear Me Out.  The trio performed at the tiny, dark Cobra Lounge club with the energy of a band still eager to prove themselves.  Jordan Cook’s reputation as an incomparable talent precedes him, but he and his band still remain a well-guarded secret to fans.  Clearly performing without a setlist, the band ripped into “Over and Over,” followed by most of the new album.  Songs from Cook’s self-released 2010 album, Seven Deadly Sins, which was not widely circulated but played heavily on the road, were abandoned until the final song of the night, “Palms to the Sky.”  An extremely rare treat was the performance of “I Think I Saw a Ghost,” a track Reignwolf did with Ghostface Killah for his 2018 album, The Lost Tapes.  The rare track was performed with Chicago rapper and accredited songwriter on the track, Vic Spencer.  The evening ended with Cook and bass player, Stacey-James Kardash, performing on top of the Cobra Lounge bar, after which Cook crowd-surfed to the middle of the room, where he banged away on his guitar until the reluctant crowd departed.

Reignwolf’s next Chicago appearance will be at the Aragon Ballroom opening for Wu-Tang Clan on June 1st, so perhaps we will be fortunate enough to see a performance of “I Think I Saw a Ghost” with Ghostface Killah himself.
