Book Review: “Total F*cking Godhead – The Biography of Chris Cornell”
“Total F*cking Godhead – The Biography of Chris Cornell”
by Corbin Reiff @corbinreiff360
It’s hard to believe another year has gone by since we lost Chris… one of the most cathartic experiences I have had since then was reading this book.
Corbin, if you read this, I want to thank you for making this book about the music. Too many times, an artists biography, or biopic, becomes centered around their battle with addiction and the tolls it takes on their personal lives and relationships. You covered these topics extremely tactfully but always put it back into the context of Chris and his music.
This book has the story of how so many songs came to life, how so many shows had specific lifelong lasting impacts on Chris, how the various bands Chris played with came in and out of being and how he ultimately found peace being alone on stage.
Corbin is absolutely correct at the end of the book when he says that,
“Because of the tragic way that Chris Cornell’s life ended, there’s a propensity to view his story as a tragedy. That would be a mistake.”
This entire book proves that point and, perhaps more importantly, it made me a little less sad.
